A new statement of faith for the United Church of Canada

The 37^th General Council (2000 Aug) decided it was time for the United Church of Canada to write a new statement of faith. The project will include two rounds of consultation with the congregations and members of the United Church.

Faith Talk I

For the first round, a workbook was distributed inviting congregations into a discussion of our faith followed by a written response to the national office by 2003 April 1. In this regard, Jim & Mary Ann presented a series of sermons and discussions during 2003, Jan and Feb.

Faith Talk II

The "Draft Statement of Faith for Discussion and Response" was released in 05 Feb. Copies are available both at the Church and on the  United Church's national website. We met at Camrose United Church to discuss the draft on 2005 April 5, Tuesday from 7:00 to 9:30 pm. Everyone was welcome to participate (whether or not you were involved in Faith Talk I).

Our response to the draft was due by 2005 Sep 30.

The General Council’s timetable for the entire project is as follows:

2002 Fall: First workbook issued.

2003 April 15: Deadline for first responses.

2003 August: Interim report to the 38^th General Council.

2005: Faith Talk II; Draft statement of faith for study.

2006 Aug: Draft statement of faith to the 39^th General Council.
