Projected
budget 2008
= $357,922 divided by 12 = $29,827 per month x 5 months =
$149,135 in expected
givings to the end of May.
Our expenses are
slightly high due to Presbytery dues and computer
technician costs in January and insurance costs in
February.
Our
givings are 24% short of the projected budget.
Mission & Service givings are right on track.
Summer
Months: "Giving With Gratitude"
Please make
arrangements with the office regarding givings over the
summer.
- leave post
dated cheques
- extra
donations above and beyond are welcome
- prearranged
remittance (PAR) applications are available on the table
outside the copy room. This same form is used to
increase PAR as well.
All givings
should increase yearly, by at least inflation, or we
continue to fall behind. Bank of Canada suggests
inflation is at 3%.
Our dollar does
not continue to have the same value or worth year after
year. Expenses rise - givings must rise in response.
Respectfully,
Your Finance
Committee

An
Old-Fashioned Church Picnic
Remember the days of sack
races, egg-on-spoon races, hot dogs and hamburgers outside
after church? Well, those days are coming back on
July 22 with a picnic in Jubilee Park following our
church service. The ConneXions Committee is
organizing a fun time for everyone but we need at least 50
people to make it a "go", so we will have a sign-up sheet
in the CE Hall during coffee time for the next month.
If we don't have 50 people signed up by July 13, we
may have to call it off. But, if we do have the
required number and the weather isn't good, we'll have the
event in the CE Hall instead....races included!
Updates will be given at church each Sunday.

Council &
Committee Capers
September 12
& 13, 2008
Overnight
Retreat at a Mystery Destination!
All members of
Camrose United Church Council and Committees (new and
continuing) are invited (and warmly encourage!) to attend
this overnight retreat event.
Together we
will explore the mysteries of PMG (policy
model of governance) and the work of Council and our
committees. We will explore, too, our communication
strategies and share information about each group's plans
and hopes for the coming church year. We will also
eat, sing, pray and have some fun together.
This event is
still in the planning stages, so keep your ears and eyes
alert for further details - and book the dates in your
calendar!

Camrose United's Thursday
Special
Thursday nights beginning
September 18, 2008
Feed your body,
mind, and spirit!
Join us for a
simple supper (6:00 pm), worship (6:45 pm), and study (7:30
pm). Come to 1, 2, or all 3 parts of the evening.
One of the study options will include an exploration of
Marcus Borg's, Reading the Bible Again and For The First
Time. Led by Dave Edwards and Alan Richards, this
10 week study (2 hours each Thursday) will explore how we
might read the Bible in ways that are meaningful to us
today and what some of its key stories are. We are
thinking about two groups for this study, one on Thursday
evenings, and one on Thursday afternoons
(4:00 pm?) For information, or if you have an idea
for a study or activity you would like to organize as part
of Camrose United's Thursday Special, please get in touch
with Mary Ann Pastuck or Alan Richards. Stay tuned
for more details!

rethinking
our mission together
at Camrose United Church
October 3 & 4 (Friday
dinner & Saturday)
All members, adherents,
and friends of Camrose United Church are invited to reserve
these dates in their calendars and to attend this event.
We will share our stories about our experiences of Camrose
United Church and our dreams for what we might be and do
together. We will celebrate who we are, take note of
what we need to strengthen, continue or change, and
identify our resources. If Camrose United Church is
like a tree, we'll examine our roots, check out our shared
trunk, consider our branches and think about the impact we
want to have on the soil and air around us. We will
be led by a dynamic, caring, and experienced team, Joyce
Madsen and Clair Woodbury of the Congregational Life Centre
in Edmonton. Watch for further details. For
more information, consult Mary Ann Pastuck or Alan Richards
-
and check out the
Congregational Life Centre's website at
www.congregatinallife.com/ !

AMONG
FRIENDS
THE GIFT OF HOSPITALITY
If you like to travel, and enjoy meeting new friends,
perhaps you should be part of the AMONG FRIENDS
network.
WHAT IS AMONG FRIENDS?
AMONG FRIENDS is a
hospitality/travel directory rooted in United Church homes
across Canada. Host families listed in the directory
welcome other U.C. people who are travelling in their area,
providing overnight accommodation for as little as $10 per
person per night - $15 if breakfast is served.
ORDER YOUR COPY NOW
The fourth edition of AMONG FRIENDS is currently
being prepared. It will be available in print form for
$20, and accessible online (by means of a username and
password) for $15. It will be current for three years.
If you use the directory even once, you will save more than
the price of it on your accommodation. To order your
copy, make your cheque payable to Allan Grose, and mail it to
the address below.
BECOME AN AMONG FRIENDS
HOST
There is no charge for listing your home as a host
destination. All you need is at least one spare bedroom
or space in your yard for an RV or tent, plus a gift for
hospitality. To request a Registration Form, contact the
coordinators:

AMONG FRIENDS
is a non-profit venture, offered as a service to the
national church. Its principal purpose is neither to
enable travellers to save money, nor to provide hosts with an
opportunity to make money. Rather, its purpose is to
build a network of friendship and solidarity among the diverse
people of the United Church all across Canada. We invite
you to share in the grace of giving and receiving hospitality.
